higher education takes a philosophical hit

Mark C. Taylor, chair of the religion department at Columbia University, has written a fascinating piece on the state of graduate schools in the United States. One thing that he doesn't clearly delineate is the difference between the higher education model in academia and the higher education model of the professional schools (business, education, law, medicine). I would be very interested to see some revisioning of those educational markets.
